PhenomexX
The sound makes the music - PhänomexX at the rock'n'popmuseum
Why do we hear sounds at different volumes? What are sound waves and how are they generated? These and many other questions can be explored and experienced at the interactive stations.
From July 9th, young and old researchers can discover these secrets in the rock’n’pop museum: in the PhänomxX laboratory, which the museum has initiated as a special exhibition together with the education office of the district of Borkens.
The exhibition offers exciting interactive stations where the secrets of sounds and sound waves can be discovered in a playful way. The PhänomexX school laboratory invites all pupils to explore the world of sound and noise for themselves. Practical experiments and exciting stations encourage them to be curious, ask questions and look for answers. This exciting exhibition allows young researchers to explore the basics of acoustics and develop their creative skills.
After the summer vacation, the exhibition will be used as an extracurricular learning space. With many references to the current guidelines and curricula, the project can be optimally integrated into school lessons.
The new interactive exhibition is supported by the joint initiative of the
rock’n’popmuseum Gronau and the Borken district education office. This cooperation enables the financing and realization of the exhibition as well as the coordination of the school groups.

"Rap is..."
The rap workshop with Dennis Buss
“Rap is……your voice plus the technique.
Times the flows divided by skills equals the epitome of freshness.”
“Rap is… my talent and my identity!”
(from: Max Herre – Rap Ist feat. MoTrip, Afrob, Samy Deluxe & Megaloh)
To the music video
120 minutes of rap music: the workshop at the rock’n’popmuseum.
With the support of rap artist Dennis Buss*, self-written punchlines and hooks are combined to create a song that is recorded on site in the mobile recording studio.
The focus is on the creative use of words, rhymes and language. Topics from the participants’ biographies become lyrical images. The professional accompaniment turns the lyrics into an individual song with beats and bass during the workshop. In addition to having fun with the creative approach to the topic, the basics of songwriting and composing will be touched on during the session, so that the young people will feel like pursuing their skills in this area further.
“Rap is… more than just a style of music. Rap is my childhood, my youth and my present! Rap is a big part of the hip-hop culture that I’ve been connected to for decades and will always be with me – let’s start your very own hip-hop journey together!”
– Dennis Buss

Pop stars that move the world
Themed tour "Music and politics"
With authentic tour guides, visitors embark on a journey through time through the music history of the 20. and 21st century. In their joint exchange, they find references in music history where artists position themselves politically and socially and take the lead in political movements. They examine examples from past decades, but don’t lose sight of current acts such as Feine Sahne Fischfilet or KIZ. The central question here can be: who does the musical message reach and can it make a difference?
Experiencing music as a communal event and medium for human and political values is one result that the pupils will take away from their visit to the rock’n’pop museum.
- The offer is aimed at pupils from grade 5 onwards.
- The workshop is adapted to the age structure of the class and can be supplemented with your own music examples in exchange
- 45 - 60 minute guided tour
- Ideal for linking to school subjects such as politics, music, social sciences or philosophy.
- incl. Recording a music video in the greenbox of the rock'n'pop lab
- Cost per pupil: 8,- €
Would you like to revitalize your students’ love of learning and explore the rock’n’pop museum as an extracurricular place of learning? We are happy to receive inquiries by telephone on 02562 – 81480 or by e-mail.

Cultural trolls
Developing creativity, strengthening community
No other institution reaches as many young people as the school. This is where the ‘Kulturstrolche’ project comes in: It brings together key players and partners to form a strong and sustainable network of elementary school, cultural institutions and local artists.
The project has been supported in the member cities of the Kultursekretariat NRW Gütersloh since 2008, and Gronau is currently also taking part in the project with three elementary school. Kulturstrolche discover, observe and ask questions, but above all they try out cultural forms of expression for themselves. From the beginning of the second school year, the children stroll through the cultural institutions of their city or region in class and during regular lesson time. In the three project school years, the pupils should have gotten to know as many as six different genres and institutions or artists as possible. The rock’n’pop museum, the city library and various independent artists will also be taking part.
- Here you can discover culture and education in your city!
KuBiG brings together culture enthusiasts and interested parties, promotes the diversity of creative forms of expression and offers a wide range of creative activities and projects, especially for children and young people, at various locations and in cooperation with a constant stream of new partners.
Under this label you will find a variety of cultural educational offers in Gronau and Epe. Whether you are a kindergarten child, a teenager, a young family or an adult – there is something for everyone here, whether in a group or as an individual.
Together, we are creating a vibrant cultural landscape that not only contributes to personal development, but also to social participation.
Become part of this movement and help make Gronau a place where culture and education go hand in hand.
The NRW state government supports the development of cultural network structures at municipal level and promotes cities, municipalities and municipal associations that work systematically on the quality of their cultural education landscape through the “Municipal Overall Concepts for Cultural Education” award. The aim is to open up opportunities for all children and young people to encounter art and culture and to develop an interest in the diversity of cultural life. The overall municipal concepts are intended to demonstrate the systematic further development of cultural education as well as a coordinated and joint approach by politics and administration in culture and education.
Gronau took part in the competition for the first time in 2022 and was able to convince the jury of the concept it had submitted with its first pitch. The Minister for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Ms. Ina Brandes, took the opportunity to present the award in person. The 15,000 euros in funding associated with the award will be used over the next two years for cultural education projects in the city and will help to build a strong and active cultural network.
