50 Years of Punk
The theatrical-musical performance “Punk 76|26” uses this anniversary as an opportunity to take a journey through five decades of punk and cultural history. Drama, music, performance, and activist elements blend with the sounds of The Clash, Patti Smith, the Sex Pistols, and other influential artists. The show is not just about music, but also about protest, freedom, resistance, and the question of how relevant punk still is today.
The performance is complemented by a reading from “Krawall & Kopfhörer.” Ralf P., founder of Wuppertal’s first punk band, recounts his personal experiences during the early punk era—from concerts, records, and friendships to nights of heavy drinking and the feeling of being part of a counterculture of his own. Musical interludes bring the sound of that era back to life.
